Future of Employment Forum

An initiative by Competence Call Center, management club and CAREER

The Future of Employment forum is an independent platform of experts that points to the future of employment – and how we can take an active part in shaping it. It was set up in 2006 by Competence Call Center in cooperation with management club and CAREER. Each year, it gathers top-class experts from industry, science and politics in Vienna to discuss topics related to the world of employment that are critical for the future.

Thomas Kloibhofer, M.A., CEO, Competence Call Center, explains the concept of the event series: “Based on the discussions surrounding social and labour policy and the “new working environments”, we look into solution strategies and best-practice examples to manage the challenges posed by the labour market”. CCC itself, in an industry paradigmatic for the new world of work, is considered an excellent example for how flexibility and security can be implemented for committed employees.
Over the past few years, the Future of Employment Forum has become established as an institution that promotes the exchange of ideas away from day-to-day business and explains entrepreneurial responsibility in industry and the world of work.
For the fifth time, the Future of Employment Forum this year highlights the challenges and strategies on a cutting-edge topic related to the world of work.

The Future of Employment Forum in the past years

During the introductory event in 2006, the keynote speaker and panel participants discussed the phenomena and challenges of a “new world of work”. Following a speech by keynote speaker Prof. Pietra Rivoli, a panel discussion of distinguished speakers got together. The experts all agreed that the future of employment will be characterised by flexibility as well as personal responsibility and commitment.

The focus of the discussions of the 2nd Future of Employment Forum was on the key word “change”: changing organisational and demographic structures, new flexibility in the labour market and lifelong learning were the central issues that were discussed by the panel guests around keynote speaker Dr Hilmar Schneider.

The theme of the 3rd forum was “Migration and work”. Who will be the employer of the future in Europe? Do employees with a migration background enliven the world of employment? What will be the requirement profiles for foreign employees in the future? These and similar questions were posed by keynote speaker Dr Thomas Liebig and the panel participants.

Last year, the 4th Future of Employment Forum finally addressed the topic of “Youth and Work”. It was discussed how the competences of young people can be best developed, which future prospects are offered by the labour market to young employees and what the role of the education system is in preparing young people for the world of employment. Dr Thomas Lang-von Wins talked about strength and competence oriented development and triggered a lively debate among the panel members.

The 5th Future of Employment Forum

In 2010, the fifth event again addresses the topic of migration and its significance for the employment market. The focus will be on young second or third generation migrants as well as on future scenarios and the role in society of employees with different backgrounds in 10-20 years.

At the 5th Future of Employment Forum, its anniversary, the event is more internationally oriented than ever before. Experts from industry and politics will look beyond the German-speaking region and examine international trends and movements that are discernable in migration policy making and in dealing with immigrants in various countries.

Keynote speaker at the 5th Future of Employment Forum is OECD director Jean-Pierre Garson.

Members of the panel are the Austrian Minister of the Interior Dr Maria Fekter, Cablecom manager Frank Zelger, Carita Vallinkoski, Competence Call Center, Mag. Markus Heingärtner, management club.

The 5th Future of Employment Forum takes place on Thursday, 1 July 2010 from 12.30 p.m. in Vienna.
